Q: In Western Japan, railroad networks had developed. On the other hand, road networks had expanded in Eastern Japan. Discuss both advantages and give your own opinion. Write at least 250 words.
In general, Japan can be roughly divided into two big areas, west and east. The transportation network shows the good features of these areas well. This essay will explain the advantages of Japanese transportation.
On the western side, there is already a satisfactory railroad network that exists. First, this area has historical cities, such as Kyoto and Hiroshima. It’s an attractive area for foreign tourists. Therefore, some railroad companies (or bureaus) provide much information such as a brochure and websites. As a result, tourists can see many historical places efficiently in this area. Second, some railroads have parallel sections. For example, most railroads were constructed parallel to Osaka and Kobe. This is helpful in times of natural disaster when one of these parallel lines can still operate. In addition, congestion often occurs in popular places and events. Thus, it’s efficient for tourists to go by train.
On the eastern side, the road networks had expanded earlier than the railroad. First, the Eastern area contains snow regions. In addition, the train is vulnerable to snow and cold temperatures. As a result, road networks were constructed in the preceding. Also, some developers constructed the resort area. For this reason, travel agencies began to operate the shuttle bus from the capital city (Sapporo, Tokyo).
In conclusion, transportation in Japan shows features of two areas. On the Western side, the train network is efficient for tourists. In contrast, in the East driving a car is more convenient for them.
